Taste of Ave happens on Roma Street once a year, and if you live here rather than visit here, it stops being an event you plan around and becomes something that just shows up outside your front door.
The food trucks and tents set up along the corridor a short walk from Hail Mary House. You don’t look for parking — there isn’t a drive involved at all. You hear the crowd building through the afternoon, finish whatever you were doing on the lanai, and walk down when you feel like it.
That’s the actual difference between visiting Ave Maria for a festival weekend and living on the street where the festival happens. A visitor plans logistics: where to stay, how far the walk is, when to leave. A resident just walks out. Living on Roma Street, an event like Taste of Ave is a Tuesday-evening perk, not a trip.
It’s also a good snapshot of what the town is like the other 360 days of the year — small enough that you recognise people, built so you can get everywhere on foot, and organised around a walkable centre rather than a strip mall.
